NMC Announces NEW CBME Guidelines with NExT for MBBS to Start in Year 2025-26
NMC has introduced new Competency Based Medical Education (CBME) guidelines for MBBS. In the starting 2025-26 academic year, Undergraduate Medical Education Board has outlined the updated curriculum for (NExT).
Next exam will be conducted in two stages: during the 54th week of the MBBS course and in the 12th month of the Compulsory Rotating Medical Internship (CRMI). This new format is designed to assess the student’s skills and knowledge more effectively.

The revised curriculum places greater emphasis on learner-centric, gender-sensitive, patient-focused, outcome-oriented, and environmentally appropriate education. By aligning with global trends, it ensures that medical graduates are well equipped to meet the challenges of modern healthcare.
Passing Criteria
- Student must obtain an overall score of at least 50% in both theoretical and practical exams to pass the professional exams.
- Students must also achieve a minimum of 40% in both theoretical and practical components.
